Marla, I love that story! Have Coyote, Will Travel. And here's the photos to prove it. What a wonderful practical joke for one neighbour to play on another. What fun they all must have had all summer.
If they get lost on the way it's no bother. But that is also a cool idea. Pictures and maybe tie a piece of thread to the piece that travels. That sounds good. I have one address but if someone is ready for it, I can send the piece as soon as possible and maybe it can be the last piece attached to the teacloth.
You are ALL part of this journey.
@IdahoCanuck you are the closest by country, but I think I lost your postal. If you are ready, you can be first, then @shindeco then @Lynn then @GraceT . Maybe we can rally a few more map points.
Okay, great! I will be away on 25-29 August, but I'll be back from my trip well before the bit of lace arrives in Singapore.
Just checking in now - I didn't know what Erin meant by photos. But now that I do I don't know what to take...

Have you thought about messaging folks who have already followed this thread? It's been going on for a few years now. Surely there are others around who would be interested in this development.
A photo of the lace or you AND the lace somewhere interesting, like the Coyote mentioned above, as something fun to add to the final project. My document is currently on a tiny piece of plastic--a solid state hard drive--rescued from a lightning struck computer, which I will be able to access again in a couple of weeks. I've been snagging the photos from the various sources and sorting through the various posts. Right now it will be a PDF, but my plan is to make it into a print on demand book.
Eek! Good idea! I'm wondering if they haven't checked back to Craftree for a while. I'll start on that list when I can. Is there a way to send them a "special alert" or something? Hmmm....
in reply to wodentoad's post:
You could begin by inboxing them. From there, I don't know.
I will try that. I should have a regular computer back within a couple of weeks so I can start working on an path. I will attempt to group countries to save time and postage.
Sounds good.. put me in. I sent you my email address in a message earlier this evening. I'm in SW USA.
Okay, the lace is away! I took it to the post office since I used a card to protect the lace. I also mailed it as "non-negotiable documents" because it makes it super quick and easy to mail and of course, super cheap. $0.70 is WAY better than $30! Don't be afraid to mail it as a letter. If it gets lost, I can always whip up another and send it back along the chain, but I have faith that it's going to get through!
I love the idea, but I really don't trust our postal system which is unreliable and erratic. But I'll watch the journey with interest.
@Judy, not sure if you got the email, so you can just mail my username at gmail dot com. You are on the list after @GraceT, which will actually bring it home, because I'm in TN. I still need to go through thread history and maybe poke a few more people, and if anyone can think of other tatters to send it to, let me know.
A little bird told me it had made its first stop, and I can't wait to see!
Have you asked Kersti? This sounds like something she may be up for.
Paging @Kersti ! Do you want to join the chain gang?
Although while I was working on another part of the tea cloth, I had this terrible thought that I made a mistake on the piece I sent out. Oh well. Even if there is a mistake, I will roll with it.

If you want to add me to the list, I'm in Sweden. This is such an amazing idea, I've followed your progress with great interest even if I haven't posted any comments until now.
Hey! Great! Sweden is beautiful. (Yes, I know, I say all places are beautiful. I am just that way.) You are on the list after a brief stop back in the states.

Thank you! Looking forward to being a part in the chain!
Another month, another update:
I am now on the second linen border section. As usual, parts of the patter that are not included or particularly clear have given me fits. But after years of counting and recounting, looking at the book or photographs of the book, I finally managed to come up with a count that has made me happy.
Here are the corners that might give others fits:
Just one more thing to include, I suppose. I really am going to have to diagram most of these joins as describing where they are might send me around the bend.
Meanwhile, there have been a few great stories on the Traveling Lace thread, and Space Lace will go up next weekend for another attempt at the first tatting in space.
For posterity, the corner starts at the lone ring, then a short ch 3+3, the next cloverleaf is joined by the first picot to the last picot of the ring. The next chain is joined to the only picot making three chains joined there, and then the normal pattern continues through 11 more picots. Then reverse the corner: ch 3+3, r 3+3-3-3-3-3 joined to the last picot of the cloverleaf, then ch as the ring above, joined to the same picot as the previous chain.
Wow - I can see why it gave you fits! It's really not regular. Kudos to you for figuring it out!
All the best to the Space Lace - hope it makes it all the way this time.
