I am setting myself a challenge, and since I chose the patterns I thought it would be fun to see if others want to join. Thanks @swissgirl for pointing out this lovely book to me.
24 Snowflakes in tatting by Lene Bjorn
The book is intended as an Advent Calendar of sorts, since each snowflake is assigned a date in December. Since I want a lighter, year long challenge, I will be aiming at two a month, in order.
The patterns are diagrams, and there are several techniques involved, so it should be a great adventurous begginer or intermediate challenge, I think. We will be around to share experience and resources, so join along even if you have never tried block tatting!
@pattyd, nice to see you are in!
I am planning on making one of each design, two snowflakes per month.
In 2015 , I had made a resolution to tat 2 snowflakes per month, which I didn't keep .... ended up tatting many in Nov-Dec.
However, your tatalong has sparked my interest, and y'day I ordered Lene's book. Should be delivered by 2nd week of Feb. I think this is a good sign, coz the nook is a new arrival on amazon.in !!!
Don't know whether I'll get able to tat them all this year, but will definitely try. It is always helpful to have others to spur you on :-)
So, yes, count me in.
I've done some already, and I have a few favorites, so I need to start with the ones I've ignored, or I'll never get to them... the onion rings, blocks,.. stuff I'm not good at.
Hi all,
I saw this on Facebook and this is my first post to Craftree.
I started the snowflakes last year in fall and I am now on number 22. Can I still join? ;) (Unfair advantage I presume. :D
But I just wanted to share that I really enjoyed it. There were some that were tough and I had to figure it out and start a couple times. But all in all it's a great experience and I learned a lot doing them.
Enjoy the ride! :)
Hi.... this does sound like fun..... I'd like to join in too. :)
I also have this book, and though I have tatted a lot of snowflakes I have never tatted any of the snowflakes in this book..... not that I haven't wanted too..... just never got around to them. So maybe this should be the year to finally get to it! And 2/month really doesn't sound all that daunting even with all the other things & projects going on.
Hi everyone!
I was pretty sure I had posted this morning, but it seems the Internet elves eat my post...
So, Welcome @srmaddox, @chinnis, @Ursula, @IzabelkaG and @IdahoCanuck!
The challenge is on - Ursula, you are totally welcome to join and comment, I am sure you will be able to help us along! All the others, we want to have two snowflakes in January, so the race is on! I am half way through the first round of the first snowflake. I am a bit nervous about it being flat, but we will see...! Of couse, we can always "catch up" makeing 3 or 4 in February if needed. My idea is that this is totally informal, just to cheer us along.
So, who will have Day 1 first...?
Progress on the first day...
I am not really sure this first round will lay flat...
Oooh... I have the book... I want to do it... but I am not keeping up with all the things I've already taken on! Argh.
I just ordered the book so I can join this tat along. I have always dreamed about having a Christmas tree covered in tatted shapes and this will help me do that!
Welcome @freetime, @treetopcreations, and @GraceT!
in reply to treetopcreations's post:
Right! I am thinking they will become the focus point of my Season's decorations!
in reply to GraceT's post:
I formally invite you to join in on a "when you feel inspired" basis - ie. don't add to the obligations, but join in even if it is just one or two of them!

OK, sounds like fun. Let me know if you would like to see my tatted flakes when you are posting your pictures.
I can also definitely tell you which snowflakes are challenging (at least for me) so I would never do them again ;) and which ones I would really like to make again, maybe in a different size.
I also found a couple errors in the pattern description. One had a picot missing in the drawing as compared to the photo. I discovered that too late so mine matches the drawing and not the picture. I will look up which one that was and let you know.
Btw I am using white size 10 Lizbeth thread for mine.
Btw, I plan on making an advent calendar of sorts with them instead of just hanging them on the tree... Not sure yet how, but I am also a lamp worker and make glass beads, so I'm thinking of making 24 beads with the numbers to go with the flakes... but where to hang? Not sure yet. (Ideas are more than welcome! :)
The book is currently on Amazon US for less than $2.50!
