Been wanting to try a doily (I'm guessing that's what this is going to be) with size 40 thread. This is my chance ....
June 7 : Looked like the center of a sunflower till round 4. Hence decided to go with that imagery & continue with yellow-only as petals.
June 9 : Very happy with size 40 thread ! It keeps my chains from being pulled too tight. I think 40 has less 'elasticity' than size 20 , hence long chains become wonky, since they can be pulled too tight. Size 40 offers no such elasticity & keeps the stitches evenly tensioned.
If I were to tat this again, I would climb out of rounds, instead of tie & cut after each.
For the long double chains, I decreased the stitch count on the return chain & found that it lay nicely snugged . Did this from Rnd 7 onwards.
Rounds 5 & 8 : Added 1 ds to the chains to avoid cupping .
Round 8 : Measures 8" across.
Measures 9-1/2" across !
