I hope our Robin hasn't died. Loves to you all who have lace and life in your hands. :)

Well, @Coretta, I'm back to it after taking some time to tat small gifts. I'm currently tatting a copy of @PattyD's doily so that I can experiment on it with my round before doing it for real...

We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel and the house is in a horrible mess. I'm hoping things will be back to some kind of normal in the next week or so. I need to write out my round of @taryn's doily but I don't want to get it out with all the dirt and dust around. I'm also afraid I'll lose it in all the mess!

Well, life intervenes, eh? But we're all ALMOST there! I learned from tatting that the thing is not to give up...

@tatterldy I can imagine! We just did our floors in the main living areas and it was such a mess. And of course it always takes longer than expected. But how fun you get a new kitchen! Ours really needs it, but kitchens are too expensive for us and in the mean time my four kids always expect me to feed them!

@graceT I love that you test tat it up first. I rarely have time for remaking the whole doily up to that point. I wish I did, I'd have a few nice almost done doilies. The only one I've had time to do it on was Tatterldy's and I modified it in the moment when I got to putting my round on the actual doily. Thank goodness things have worked out as well as they did.

I could really use an almost done doily as I'm wanting to give one to my friend but they take so long. :)

Yes, it is time-consuming to tat a model of the doily. I'm doing a few shortcuts in my tat-up - going straight to the next round without cutting or tying, for example. So it's not very pretty. But I think it will be useful when I start on my round. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I will be trying a new technique, so I'd probably have to modify it at least once...

Love to give it a try!

@knittinglace, do you mean that you'd like to take part in a Round Robin, or that you'd like to try tatting the doilies you've seen in this Round Robin?

Probaby to take part in a Round Robin. It's been a long time since I designed anything.

Well, @knittinglace, we're a bit exhausted doing this one, but perhaps a Round Robin with groups no bigger than four (= four rounds in a doily) would have a better chance of finishing!

My kitchen is done! Now, a little cleaning and I can get out my RR and finish it! Okay, after Mother's Day, which is Sunday. :-) I have a couple of small things to finish for that.

No hurry, I'm getting ready to start teaching a tatting class and that could tie up a lot of my time, especially since I teach about 45 mintues from home. In the future, though.....

Sure. I'd love for this to happen, at the right time. At least one other designer has expressed interest...

Yippee!

As for me, I've just finished tatting the last round of my model for Doily #3. It was good that I took the time to do it - by the time I finished the round, I could see that my original concept for my round won't work. So now I am thinking what to do instead...

@PattyD, I'm getting close to a design for my round on your doily. I think it would be okay to do it in the dark purple thread, or in 132 Tropical Punch. Trouble is, there isn't much left of either on the card of thread. I will see if I can buy a ball of Tropical Punch from a local shop. I could also ask after the purple colour - though I would need to know the colour number. Is it 633 Purple Dark?

Otherwise, I could use 680 Spring Green (I have a ball of that), but that would be boring! Or I could - gasp! - introduce a new colourway! I'm considering 139 Fruit Fizz, or maybe 140 Country Grape Swirl - it's a combination of a dark purple and a pale purple, and the dark purple looks quite like the purple already in the doily.

I vote for purple, but you are free to choose.

@PattyD, I vote for purple, too - but now I need to get hold of some of the thread! Which purple is it? Or, if you could send me a batch, I'll wait for it...

I'll check my stash. And I will need your address.

Thanks, @PattyD. I'll send you a message...

Meanwhile, though, I have measured my stocks of purple thread and Tropical Punch. I think, if I use one for Shuttle 1 and the other for Shuttle 2, I might just make it all the way around. But it would probably look better for my round to be all in purple...

Okay, I have finished my round for Doily #3, aka @PattyD's doily!

Here's a picture of the finished doily:

At first, I tried an idea I had been thinking about for a while - a fringe of long picots, with the tops crocheted together. But I quickly decided that I didn't like it - it was onerous to do, the fringe was difficult to shape, and it didn't look nice anyway:

After that, I quickly settled on a pointy design, which owes something to a pointy design I've seen on @tattrldy's website (The Christmas Snowflake 2010, here: http://www.wandasknottythoughts.com/my-patterns/). For this round, I had a Josephine knot on top of an SCMR on top of a chain.

Here's a picture that should be a close-up of my repeating motif (it behaves funny when I click on the thumbnail, though):

There are a few more pictures in my project: http://www.craftree.com/projects/1698

So now, I just need to send this doily off to @PattyD. I'll do that within the next few days. Patty, I do hope you like it!

Looks great @GraceT! I like the points on the outside and the rounded edges on the inside. Nice visual

Glad you like it, @tattrldy! Which rounded edges did you like? I'm wondering whether it's actually @Coretta's pink & green round that you're looking at.
