Craftree Forum Tree > Tat-Alongs > 2015 Beginner's Mystery Tat-A-Long
This Beginner's Mystery Tat-A-Long is the perfect opportunity for the beginner tatter to try their hand at something a little more interesting without being overwhelmed.
I will post here the instructions for a tatted piece, with each step being posted every few days which will give everyone a chance to keep up no matter how little or much tatting time they have.
New tatters can find and give support while working on this project together. The group has tatters at all levels of experience who are generous with their help.
Being a beginner's level project, the only techniques you'll need are
- rings
- chains
- picots
- joining to picots
- joining with shuttle thread
The pattern is suitable for both needle and shuttle. One shuttle will suffice.
There will be 9 rounds in total and I'm working on approximately 1 hour of tatting time per day between updates.
No sign up is required to take part, although we do like to know who's here so do say hello! If you link your project page to the mystery pattern we'll also give you a special mystery badge when you finish.
The pattern detail page has downloadable instructions for both beginner and advanced level.

I am not a beginner, but looks interesting !
Is it possible to tat this project front side/back side to give it a little challenge?
Anyway, I'm in !
Thank you for organizing it ^
This sounds like a nice distraction from doing the same motif every day. Thanks so much, I'll be joining! :D
For shuttle tatting, will 1 shuttle suffice?
For shuttle tatting, will 1 shuttle suffice?
Yes one shuttle will be enough.
I won't be notating for frontside/backside but it is a fairly standard type of pattern so if you wanted to you could make those changes and share with everyone.
Incidentally it's not my original design but it is a lovely piece.
I think I might give it a go...I haven't tatted in a while and need to get back into the rhythm of tatting again. I am not a beginner, but think I "need" this. thank you! LindaB
I would love to try this but am not sure if I will have internet access for a couple of the weeks. So I may have to play catch up later.
I am in. :)
Sounds like fun. I'm in.
I am in. When it says 1 shuttle is enough, does that mean I should wind one shuttle and leave it attached you the ball
If anyone has wound a shuttle in preparation and it's not attached to the ball or would like to try different colours for ball and thread don't worry - you can also tie your threads together instead.
I have never tatted, my shuttle and thread will be in Monday I hope. I ordered on line so I am waiting for it in the mail. If it does not show up can I still follow along?

Thank you for sharing this on Facebook beginning tatting group. I'll go set up a project page.
