Beautiful snowflake. How did it work out with day 2?

Still a little wobbly but finger blocks into shape mostly so a proper blocking should sort it out.

I've finished the day 2 snowflake and I've picked a substitute for day 1 that I don't like. I've chosen http://www.craftree.com/patterns/2357 hopefully it will settle nicely into the mix with the others and is much more me.

I love it! Thanks for showing it to us. And it's done in a single round, right?

@Muskaan, I am using 40. So far, using the smallest measurement on the bare thread space tool, I am getting around 6-7 mm bare threads. They appear to be about the right size.

Thanks a heap :-)
I think I will start with another snowflake & come back to this later. Not having tatted for almost a month, I want to start with something more enjoyable - not a great fan of guages ;-P

And nice choice for the next snowflake :-)

Wondering if we should have separate threads for the snowflakes -- if not each, then maybe in pairs ? Otherwise this thread will become too long to be of help in future ?
All individual threads could be linked to / be under this common master-thread or create a Snowflakers' Group or something .... however this thing works. There are so many participants already :-)
Just a thought.

That was very clever to use beads on the bare thread! Maybe I will do it again with beads, looks so beautiful

That's a good thought, @muskaan. Maybe @Kersti could turn this thread into a Group, like for the Round Robin. Then people can attach their projects to the group, and it's easy to view all of them.

I've moved this thread to the tatting challenges group - please join the group if you have not yet done so.

I've also started to set up individual threads for each snowflake - please discuss the snowflakes on their own threads where possible as it will help to keep things neat and tidy for later readers. This thread should now be used for the challenge as a whole

They look great, congrats!

I specially like how the longer bare threads make the arms pointier in the Day 1 one. I think thos could be combined with @IdahoCanuck's idea of adding beads, maybe using bulge beads, for an even "starry-er" effect.

I am getting frustrated just waiting for my book to arrive so I can start the challenge! I just checked the tracking and now they said it will arrive by 2/15. I am under the weather and wish I could start while I have to just rest - as if tatters ever just sit and do nothing! Are any of the patterns in public domain so I can start one? If not, I am going to pick another snowflake from another book I have...

I don't think so, but there are 3 stitches between picots everywhere in day 2. That might help you get started!

Thanks so much soyloquesoy! I will do that - I had been studying the picture to try and figure that out!!! Knowing the number I can do it.

I'm almost done with day 2... and I have to say, this is not going to lay flat!

I think just doing the two smaller rings side by side (without the 3ds I am doing between them) might be a solution. I am still going to try to just solve it by blocking...

I had the same problem..... got it all done and tried to block it ..... I did get it to flatten but didn't like the look so I cut the second round off and will redo it .... I agree that it would work better with out that small chain.... I may make a couple of other adjustments also.

[Reply=IdahoCanuck;215331Well do let us know what other adjustments you make and how they work out, it will surely be useful!

alt-text My December 2nd Snowflake
I have retatted the second round and it is laying nicely even without blocking! Yeah!
I tried leaving out the small chain and it really didn't help much.... if at all...
I think the problem was more likely that the small dbl rings + the chain + the way the following rings were connected either side made that part of the snowflake too wide and that puckered the rest of it.... I never really liked those 2 little rings anyway so I thought why not just get rid of them. So, I left them and the small chain out of the mix and replaced them with just a single ring of 3+3+3+3-3 and the chains on either side I reduced from 3-3 to 2-2..... the only other thing I did was to make my join picots very small to pull the other rings together hoping that would help them lay nice and I think it helps
