Very interesting @swissgirl ! Love the curtain idea & the fact that your group wants to join in as well :-)

I, too, am making most of the snowflakes in colour. I am viewing them as small experimental pieces - either in colour combinations, thread diversity, new tweaks, etc. My Day 2 was in size 40, Day 1 is in 20 (I thought it would make a nice coaster), & I bought some beautiful colourways in embroidery thread, which I will use in some o's the flakes. I hope to learn something new with each flake.
In white, they already look superb; hence my foray into colour-play :-)

I had some time to tat ahead of the month, now already mid april....:-)) Finished Day 9. Finally over the Blocktatting, and onion (first time I made them in a project). Was much more fun than I thought. Well, I don't now when I will fall behind, but for the moment I continue on the snowflakes and the Anne Orr Centerpiece.

Well, I finally got time to finish #2. Will post a picture later. Too many irons in the fire.

I'm stuck halfway through the first one, maybe I can get back to it tomorrow.

Finally finished my first two (no. 2 and 5). Pics can be seen here: http://www.craftree.com/album_pages/823. Used Lizbeth 20 Ice Blue and Artiste embroidery floss from Hobby Lobby. Onto my next one.

Just finished my first Snowflake 1st Day of December will post picture later, now I can move one to the next one, I found this snowflake just a bit tricky even for me, I have to concentrate on the last row which I must admit I had to unpick a couple of times but I got their in the end, Yes I used white thread but they wont all be white.

Day 3 is done! Such a fun one to work.

@Kersti, do you want to set up the day 4 thread, or should I just go ahead and do it myself? (when I finish the next one, of course... LOL!)

Hi, everyone. I'd like to join the fun. I've had Lene Bjorn's book for quite some time and this is just the motivation I need to get busy with those lovely patterns. Since I'm starting late, I thought I'd start with #5 and #6 for March and try to catch up by tatting the first four as I go along.

Keeping my fingers crossed, hoping to at least finish this month's 2 snowflakes. I don't want to be behind by 4 !
Lovely work, ladies :-)

And I've finished 1 through 5. I've had this book for quite a while but wanted to learn the split chain first. This challenge motivated me to stop putting it off and learn as I go. Lene's instructions just didn't work for me. When I attempted it years ago with some success, I was using David Collyer's instructions which were shared by email through the lace@arachne email list. Unable to find those instructions, I went searching for some that looked similar. I think I found some in a tutorial by Jane Eborall. So I'll try again with #6. I really need to finish a couple of projects with deadlines before I start though.

Cool. Yes, @JaneEb's tutorial is good. I remember practicing covering rings too as practice for split chains. I don't like split chains, though...

That's a good idea. Thanks for sharing it.

There are no split chains in my first 5 snowflakes. When I messed up a split chain, I finished the round traditionally and dealt with the ends. I'll have to master the technique before I can decide whether I want to bother with using it regularly. I confess I do hate dealing with the thread ends and it would eliminate a few more of those.

@tatknot
I did the very same thing, with the very same thought for Day 5 !!! Deliberately tatted in single colour in order to practice SCh. I can do it fairly okay now, but nowhere near as fluently & seamlessly as Frivole ! She has a lovely video demonstrating it.
I like Jennifer Williams' (cariadtatting) tutorials too. She has very clear diagrams and instructions.

I'm sure there are some more resources listed in my blog on the Tatting Resources page.

I also found that knowing the Catherine Wheel Join helps in transfer of learning to SCh.

yeah, it is a balance beteween how annoyed one is with ends and how annoyed with split chains, LOL!

I started the threads for March snowflakes! I might get day 5 in this month yet! How is everyone doing?

Thanks a heap Mónica :-)
I've completed Days 4 & 5 -- two snowflakes for this month. Started Day 6 but sidelined for the present.
Still need to catch up, though, for starting late. Will tackle Day 3 at a more leisure pace because I have something specific in mind.
Will upload pics next week.
