I've got one more from "Tatting by Penelope, Book 2" that I found interesting and can be reduced to 3cm with size 40 thread. I just need to get my samples scanned and cropped. :)
With size 40, my Quatrefoil Square also measures 3cms. I sent 2 old samples of the square to Cathy. Not sure if it is in the Craftree database.
the 2 on the right are in size 40.
I sent 2 of the pink ones.

Interesting pattern - I'll have to give it a try. :)
There's one more pattern from "Tatting by Penelope, Book 2" that I've made a pdf for - and I think it's the most interesting one from that book. You can't see the motif in the photo the photographer took - just the dark area where it was inserted into a linen placemat for a table setting. All you can make out of the square is the four contrasting rings from the second round. It called the small motif a Trefoil - which I've always understood to be an interchangeable term with Clover Leaf. But a Clover Leaf's 1st and 3rd rings are not joined together. The Penelope Trefoil calls for 3 classic rings of 4-4-4-4 all joined, including the last ring to the open picot of the 1st ring, then tied and cut in the center so you have a mini perfectly triangular motif with a slight cup to it. It has an interesting look to it, and I don't recall seeing this done elsewhere, even though it must have done, right? See for yourself...
Here's the link for the Trefoil Square: https://www.craftree.com/patterns/9867
Fascinating! Though with all the cut & tie, it wouldn't be my first choice for the Tat-a-Brussels Monument...
I have posted six more squares to Carthy today, this is the Fortunate Square Motif by Henna J Hwang which was posted on her Facebook page.
They should have been p ousted on Monday but due to the snow I was unable to get out, and now we have just lost our post office in the village, I had to drive to the next village just to post them. Hope they get there in time,
They’re very pretty, @tattingmargaret! And it’s a new design I haven’t seen before...
This reminds me - 2 more square patterns :
Reverse Quatrain by Frivole
and
Brussels Square by Kathy Konek

Thank you for the links! I couldn't resist test tatting Frivole's Reverse Quatrain - made up fast and came out the right size. I don't have a pink size 30 thread, so haven't tried Ms. Konek's square. Soooo many designers contributed original designs to this project.

Looks great! This has been a fun project to contribute to. It had the added benefit of helping us compile a whole bunch of square tile patterns for potential use in the future... I can't wait to see how this all turn out!
in reply to moraih's post:
I totally agree. Frivole's square is elegant as are most of her patterns!
I worked it in size 40, along with Vrinda's squares. Later I will work other squares from all patterns you have so laboriously & enthusiastically listed and join them to make a tray cover. I've placed the 8 squares already completed to see how it could look -
Frivole's in on bottom right. By the way, if you look at her previous post, she made the same without central ring.
The one on the top right was a mistake - it is Vrinda's Merry-Go-Round, but with longer chains. I don't know whether she mistakenly typed 15 stitches when she sent me the pattern or what. I reworked it with 9 stitches again.
As you found too, her Bubbles motif, too, needed extra stitches. When I made it in size 20, it was small. I've added 1 stitch to every segment of every element.
in reply to muskaan's post:
It's been fun going through the antique books looking for different squares that will fit the criteria - just wish I wasn't so sloooooow...
For visual tatters - stitch count and sequence/order of tatting Vrinda's squares are now notated on photographed models.
You can access them Urchin, Wiggles, Bubbles, Clovers, Merry-Go-Round
Not really: just more square motifs. Magic squares are entirely different.
Well, the Heart Squares are trickier to try to replicate continuously, but I'm positive that the "Fortuna Squares" @muskaan above DO tesselate and that you can make a square any size you want. That's what I consider a Magic Square motif. It will take split rings and probably a split chain, too,
Yes, the Fortuna Square can be worked continuously as a Magic Pathway. All we need are split rings ; no split chains.
And the entire square is completed before moving to the next one in a straight line/row. This is the simplest path instead of trying to work it in triangular sections.
The large ring is obviously a SR to move to next square. But the last small ring before it is also worked as split ring.
Each square is worked in clockwise direction, and the very first square will start with a small ring.
Trace it out on the image and see if this helps. I do enjoy tracing pathways ;-P
UPDATE : The pathway is shown in image on p20 of this thread
@muskaan, I cannot trace that particular path without losing part of the Fortuna square (the last ring and chain at the bottom of each square). Perhaps I am not seeing it the same way as you.
@Judy, yes, the Fortuna square would work as a magic square with a small redesign. I'd make a four square mat and then change the central intersection to chains or something else that would enable traveling from one square to the next. Similar to the process from this blog post:

in reply to Bay's post:
I will outline it on the image in the morning.

& @Bay
So here it is all notated in the pic from Lotus' blog
Henna Hwang's Fortuna Square magic/infinite pathway (no tweak or redesign, except for replacing certain rings with split rings) -
