I found a little bit of pink thread that Muskann sent me years ago in an exchange!!!
And a partial ball of Vineyard Harvest!!! We’ll see how far I can stretch it!
I change the chain stitch counts from 3 to 4 at each segment to get it to 3 cm and laying nicely square & flat!
Once again..... All is well in Tatville!
I was able to get 6 of Lilas Joublot’s squares done tonight with my little bit of pink.... AND.... I dug up some more pink (of a slightly thinner weight) of a different thread type... I’ll see how that works out with my Vineyard Harvest
I think I have convinced some of the other ladies at Shuttlebirds here in Spokane to join in as well. I shared the project and Cathy's original pattern at our last guild meeting and offered to foot the bill to mail as many of them as people bring in at out Feb 3rd meeting. I have a dozen made up already - this is perfect for me right now as I am fighting with the local virus and have to wear a mask all day to keep my roommate healthy. (She frequently works with medically fragile children.) So small, quick tasks are perfect for my limited patience and attention span, LOL!

I love how that turned out! I had trouble downloading Lilas instructions, so I haven't tried it yet - I'm 6 squares short of finishing my sixty Frauberger squares and moving on to the MacLeland square.. I'm almost out of the variegated thread, which will leave me three balls of straight pink thread to slog through (groan) I really hope Cathy makes her goal of 10,000 - it certainly won't be because we didn't hold up our end!

Wahoo! That's fantastic! Thanks for chiming in. Your squares look great. I do hope you get to feeling better soon. Nasty bugs sure appear to be making the rounds right now. I'm sorry you caught one of them. :/

I couldn’t download or print her pattern either... I finally just sketched it out ... it really is pretty simple in her version each segment in both the rings and chains is 3 DS’s...
I went to 4 DS’s on the chains because I tat rather tight.
I haven't tried to diagram the Norma B pattern yet, but it's just like the dainty baby diamond with one p, 3ds repeat removed from each chain. I'm about to try it one last time to make sure the scale stays right. Tried reducing the ring sizes but it doesn't look right so hopefully adjusting the chains will work out.
Have also been working on a square with overhand knotted chains. It's not going well though, trying new celtic shuttles and I really am NOT digging them at all. I think with a small adjustment I can do it with a regular shuttle. Still gotta try that one once more to make sure it stays within scale.
On top of that, I'm trying to find my little bag with squares that were all finished. It's only 25, got bogged down in the plan (played with some Mary K squares but haven't had anything come out right yet). Thought I had put them in my tatting drawers so I wouldn't lose them. Guess what... .
edited to correct diamond not square pattern. The diamond looks more square to me and the square looks more like a diamond.
I've found another pattern that can be used to make a square motif with little variation. In Tatted Treasures there is a layout for a vest made of hexagonal swirling motifs. On page 25 is an enlarged view of the motif. I made a sample of this (in white) (.
for something else and discovered the center round of 12 rings is almost exactly 3 cm. To make it a "square" you can convert everythird picot in the outside chains into a larger picot, or a 1-1 ring. Yes, it will have a hole in the center, but I can do this one nearly in my sleep.

Page 25.. R: 6-2-2-3, C: 4-3., and repeat 12 times, using the side picots for joining.

Here's the waistcoat the square is from: https://www.craftree.com/patterns/1210
I have finished the 60 Frauberger squares and have started in on Jane's MacLeland square! My count is now 182!!! It looks like I'll reach my goal of at least 200.

Thanks, Grace. :)
@Judy It would never occurred to me to convert that motif into a square. How cool! Can you post a sample pic?
Here's a picture -- as you can see with the ruler, they've creeped larger. Making the joins for the rings too big allows the overall to get too large. When I focussed on adding the "corners", I got sloppy with the joins. I also switched in this one to mock rings, and they end up larger. So I think a shuttle tatter might get it small enough to meet the size requirement.

WOW!!! You ROCK! That's a lot of hours! Cathy is going to be so jazzed. :)

Okay, I see where you're going with it. I'll give it a try - after I get some sleep. I've been at work since Tuesday night, but am expected to be able to go home around noon. About all my brain can look forward to at the moment is a shower and bed!.
My only other pink is a smaller DMC 30 so I'm using it for the chains (where there is the thicker stronger core) and increasing the chain stitch count to 5 DS per segment..... it's working out perfectly! Love this motif... very easy and quick!

Hi, Can you post the link to this pattern again, please, or tell me where to look. I'd like to try it, too. It belongs to the magic square family!
