Sure does. Of course, there is still a ways to go, and three separate counts have given me three different numbers for the linen borders, and the turns are not described very well. But there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Okay, so I've been working on counting the linen insertions which I have done while my little terror of a near toddler was playing quietly, looks like 32 repeats plus a half (no cloverleaf) between the c1 corner joins, and possibly 106 joins to the linen insertions. I've counted these half a dozen times, but I think so far I have done the most accurate count this time. I suppose it won't be perfect until I have the piece in my hot little hands. Send eye drops.
Yay, @wodentoad, you're still at it! Could you post a progress picture? Or is the tablecloth now too big?
So here's the progress so far. Two circles left. (It's taken me over a year just for those!) and to give you an idea of the scale, I put my ruler down at the bottom. (It's blue.)
Today's background is my back porch, where my husband's bike and our old mower live. It was such a nice day, I thought I'd take advantage of the nice neutral background.
So cool to see the progress. Thanks for sharing!
Spectacular. You've had a lot going on in the past year that filched time from this massive project. And just look at all the progress you still managed on it. When my kids were small, I often felt like all I accomplished in any day was diapers and floors. But my tatting lived in my pocket, so I did sneak in a couple of stitches here and there. This looks wonderful. What a work of art.
Thanks! I'm going to finish the pokeball project for my anniversary (June 21st) and then I'm going to finish these pieces. Next, of course, is the triangle/oval triangles, and then my biggest frustration has been the counts on that linen insertion. They are not included in the pattern, like a lot of things.
Julia Sanders, why did you do this to me? You know I'm a sucker for big projects!
Wow, wow, wow!! That is just amazing, and it keeps getting more so!
From the pattern in the book, one would never guess it would work up so large! It's going to look amazing on your table!
I have a theory that the name "tea cloth" implies that the cloth inserts are large enough to place your plate on them. Then the little sets of 3 round motifs on the sides are supposed to hang down over the edge of the table.
No idea if that's true, but that's my theory.
Probably, and it might if you did it with size #50. Currently, on my table, everything outside the first flower border hangs down, which looks pretty nice.

Okay, finally finished the four triangles made of circles.
I've spent about 45 minutes puzzling out how to write the next section, but to be honest, it may just require a diagram as it is a complex bit of tatting. I'm starting the center triangles. While puzzling, I finally found the answer to "small cloverleaf (c1)" from earlier in the pattern and confirmed that it was a cloverleaf of 4ds: R 4-4-4-4, R 4+4-4-4, R4+4-4-4.
The joins to the ovals is going to be....
@wodentoad, I'm really curious! Will you have to insert the cloth panels before you can go any further?
After the next four triangles (which hopefully will NOT take a year), I will do the two rows of tatting that bind the triangles to the main pieces. Since I am not sure how big the cloth will have to be, I'll do that before I do the final set of medallions that attach to the border.
Your slow, steady progress gives hope and encouragement to all tatters. It's no longer, "I think I can", but "Of course I can". No matter how long it takes, of course I can!
Well, as my mother always says, there's only one way to eat an elephant!
Totally agree with @Lynn. You are an inspiration to all of us! You certainly will finish your elephant, and the rest of us will finish our, um, much smaller but hopefully still imposing Irish wolfhounds...
