Well, friends, we are almost at the end: I turned the last corner and am started down the second half of the first triangle I added. Isolation at home isn't all bad, I guess.
After I pull the magic threads, it is JUST the outer rings and cloth inserts remaining!
Not yet. Not sure what kind of cloth to use, OR what color! I am thinking some kind of linen, either black or white, but solid. Something that doesn't take away from the main work. Part of me is also considering tulle or something similar, so that those open spaces just fade into the background.

I understand your thinking about the tulle. But do you think it would hold up well enough? I'm concerned about the weight of the tatting pulling it all wonky. What about organdy, or some other type of muslin? After all this work, all this lovely work, you really want something that is going to last a long time.

I would guess this Tea Cloth is about eight feet across?
I agree with Lynn that the cloth should stand up well to the weight of the tatting and last for a good while.
These seem like better ideas. I think as long as I use something black, it should pop the white on it out. I am not a seamstress, really. I can follow instructions for a costume, and I have a bunch of surgical style masks ready as soon as my elastic arrives in the mail. I will have to start shopping soon (online)!
I haven't measured it recently (I will vacuum tonight so I can lay it out and measure it), but from my last measurement, it is still expected to be 2m or around 6ft across.
That's really quite huge. Yep, you definitely need something heavier than tulle for your inserts.
JUST pulled the magic threads on the final long row. The cloth is next, but I would like to ask if someone else would be willing to do this part as I am not confident in this and I don't think I have this skill (I also fail at quilting).
In other news, I weighed it and it is 1.5lbs or 680g. It seemed heavier! Also hubby thought it was funny that I called it my "middle child."
Also, I made a mistake that will not be corrected. The triangles on this row that connect to the connection point triangles are not the same as the rest of the triangles of the row. The side rings are only 3-3-3-3 with only 3 picots vs the 5 that I did. Ah well.
According to the message history, I started this on 06-24-2018. Two years for one row. I really need to tat faster. ;)

Love your husband. Raise your kids. Study hard and get good grades. Tat when you can. Fast or slow isn't the issue.
Interesting thing about that, hubby the professor just got a new job in Missouri, a 6 hour drive West and three hours further west than I have ever lived. A slightly different culture, but also an easier path to my goals. Downside is that I will be taking a break of about a year: tuition break takes a year to kick in, and I will be establishing the house. It is going to be a crazy summer, but at least I have tatting to keep me sane.

About the fabric inserts - I recall that someone here was interested to help you with them. She probably posted in this thread, but it was some time back... @kjminniti, was it you?

Such gorgeous work and such a huge tablecloth! Best of luck with everything concerning your moving to a new place! I wonder what will inspire you in this new place, once you get settled in!
Moving! We just did that in November. Can't say I envy you the hassle, but you'll settle right in and soon feel at home. Having kids around kind of helps with that. Stay safe and healthy.
Okay, we've passed two weeks in the new place. It's a lovely house, lovely town, and hubby is enamored of his new school. Most of everything is unboxed, though we lack some shelves to set up my craft area, and my teenaged son refuses to unbox without help.
Tablecloth is stalled until I can get the inserts in, so I've been working on the Point of Light doily which should be about 1m from point to point (91.3 cm) if my calculations are correct. When I eventually finish THAT one, it's going to my Chemistry Advisor from my last college. Then I guess I'll start working on one for my next advisor. lol.

Okay, just bought a new ironing board, and I am back in the game! In the meantime, I have been back to making dragons and opened an Etsy store, "Here There be Dragons." I have also spent some time making Aliens for my daughter. But now that routine is back, I think I need to get back to the finishing steps of this. I'm not gonna trip at the finish line.
Next up I will start counting rings again and attaching the final motifs! We are almost there, friends!

I am working on a few more dragons to add to the collection, which is a lot of fun and fills up my empty time being the pandemic parent.
If the traveling pieces don't make it back, I can always just add two more. No worries. I can't wait to see it finished!

I have started several times to send on to Kristi, only to hear someone else say the mail is still being held up there. Would like to hear from someone that letters from US to Scotland are going thru.
Send a postcard, Maybe? It could be a good test, if that gets through, surely a small package would.
