Good to see your progress! And that is a lovely table. (Dining table, I would have said, not just a kitchen table!) You certainly should have a huge party when you finish this project. I'm trying to imagine what that will be like. You'll be displaying your work on your new table, right? Where will the food go? 
I could, very carefully tack it to the wall, or else put the food on our old card-table. I'm thinking of making a big to-do with my fellow crafters to show off our best stuff, mostly because where I make lace, my friends are amazing knitters and sock makers and they just leave me in awe. I'm a little bit insane, as I love huge projects. They give me a high pressure environment to learn, and that works well for me.
I'm addicted to lace like a drug. I've wanted to learn torchon (and related bobbin laces) ever since I saw it at a craft show five years ago, but this will not be the only one of these tablecloths I'm ever going to make, nor will it be my only large project. I've seen other table and teacloths in many lace-styles that would look amazing on my table. It just lends itself to lace.
I'm about to finish the inner part of petal #4 with four more to go, tatting them onto the part that's already finished is the work of a few afternoons, but then it's a LONG haul to finish all the little circles that make up the larger petals. I'm going to do my best to get at least one or two more motifs finished today.
Welcome back, Wodentoad! I was thinking of you the other day & wondering if you had gotten back to your amazing project after the holidays. The holidays usually discombobulate life, don't they? And yes, a big party to celebrate finishing this project sounds like a great idea. Happy Tatting in 2013!
At long last, I finished the inner motifs of the insert petals.
They look a little twisted up, but I finished the last one last night and I haven't yet ironed them. Once they're at least a little flatter, I'll do the edging around them including the pseudo-motif at the bottom, and attach them to the first row of circles that I've already done. When I write this down, and probably when I do this again, I will do these FIRST and THEN tat the circles. Mostly because I'm lazy and since this part shows joins on one side, it will be easier to keep them on the correct side that way.
There are actually eight of them, but two are already finished and attached to the body of the work. These are just the next six that I did all at once.
I appreciate the way you chronicle your progress and share it with us. This is such an amazing project you've taken on. Maybe one day, I'll be inspired to take on and COMPLETE as sizable project. Happy Tatting!
I'm happy I can encourage others with my insanity! The insertion panels are actually working up pretty quick, I should finish #3 (of 8) tomorrow and probably make a sizeable dent in #4. I'll post again when I've got them done. I would have given up a long time ago but for the fact that I've got people I have to fess-up to when I meander off.
I think I've gained some speed, so hopefully the larger petals will go faster than the first set.
I'm still alive! I just finished #6 of 8 insertion panels before I start working on the large petals. Thanks to BettyTatter, who just sent me her final 12 balls of #10 crochet cotton, I am assured to have more than enough to finish this monster. I'll post a pic as soon as these last two insertion petals are done.
Okay, finally done with the insertion panels. Now to start filling up the larger petals with lots of tiny tiny circles of tatting. I need to get hubby's nice camera and start taking some nice BIG pictures, as the ones my phone does are on the small side.
I'll start on the circles in the morning. Now I'm going to bed.

Thank you, all! I measured the table last night, it's 42" across. The large thread makes the difference though, and the part with the cloth panels should drape nicely off the edge.
WOW!! This is such an amazing project you're taking on. It is going to be gorgeous. Happy Tatting! I'm thinking you're going to spinning you will be making SO many circles!
Dropping a quick note:
I've been caught up with some work this past week, but I've gotten through half of the next row of circles. They take about 20-30 minutes each, hopefully I can finish in the next week or so, as I have about 20 more in this round.
Nah, not hardly. I'm doing the seven remaining petals together, row by row. So I have 35 circles of 12x (R 2-2-2-2, C 3), of which I've done about half. One of those circles takes about 15-25 minutes depending on how many distractions I can find between starting and finishing. I'm faster than I was, but I'm still not super fast.
Okay! Looking entirely like it's predecessor, this pic shows the second row of rings done. I took a little mental break to make a couple of quick bookmarks for some friends, and it helped me get back on my game. It has not been ironed before this pic, I'll probably iron it again after the next row. On to row 3!
Thanks, all! I just woke up before the boys so I started the first ring and chain for the first circle of the next round! I'm attempting to get two done per day, at least I'm hoping to.
And Lynn, talk about determination, you're crocheting a bedspread! Wow to you!
