Miss me? Okay, so I've been doing everything, I miss my hours of uninterrupted tatting. Well, having stolen some moments the second row tatted up surprisingly fast considering I had so little time to work on it.

As you can see, it'll need a second blocking, but I might wait until after I've finished the motifs at the corners, or I might give it the once over with the steam iron. Once the motifs are done, the next three rows are only partial between motifs.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to this, I should have some time to tat since I'm only cooking one out of three turkey dinners.

Wow wodentoad, this is amazing - it is coming together so beautifully. I hope the partial rows tatt up quickly for you. Hubby and I are loving seeing this progress, well done :)

Thanks everyone! I'll be started on the corner motifs tomorrow while I wait on the cornbread.

It's already a work of art. At this rate, you may be able to display and use it at your Christmas feast.

Does the photo show the table that you work at? Is this where you actually attach the next row?

In answer to your questions, Lynn, that's my dining table, though I usually work wherever I have a spare minute. Right now I'm working on some insertions that attach at the "corners" where those four leaf clovers are attached (the third picture). The next two rows are partial rows that go between the corner motifs and then it's finished with, I think, three more rows of border, making seven total. After that, I expect I'll start working on the motifs that go between the linen panels, so that I can get an idea of how much fabric I need for those panels.

For now, I feel like there's actually less to do than I have done, I feel as though I've passed the halfway point or nearly so.

Okay. Corner insertions are done, and I'm working on the 3 rows that run between them. We've all been run ragged at our house, so getting back into the swing of school might actually provide for some needed relief from the stress of the Holidays.

In other news, my tatting will be making a much longer journey than I had anticipated when first starting this project. As I alluded to in another thread, my husband's friend who has become part of our adopted family is getting married, so Husband, son, I, and my tatting will be making the trip in may to visit India. I expect I shall fill up my travel log with "Toad tatting at the Taj Mahal" or "Toad, tatting on the train," and of course, "Toad tatting in a Sari."

That is so exciting wodentoad! It will be an internationally traveled piece :) Will you have time to meet any tatters there? There is a growing number of intatters members from India :) I look forward to the travel log and your tatting adventures ('toad and the tablecloth travel abroad' perhaps :) )

PS...Photos? I will check google :)

Yay!! I will look forward to those photos. You should post your itinerary when the time comes - maybe you really can meet up with some tatters while you're in India.

I linked the G+ album some posts back, I suppose I ought to add it to my sig! Here it is again.

Yup! My tatting has traveled to Huntsville, AL to visit the rockets, it's been to the Parthenon in Nashville, TN, Dollywood, and will also be going to DC. I'm thinking that I might change bags again for something a bit more tool and travel friendly. I have my eye on one of our many backpacks, it's one of the perks of being married to a computer geek. I will absolutely post pictures!

Okay, so over Christmas Vacation, I finished the motifs at the corners. (I put a 1 1/4" bottle cap in the center for scale, and it was photographed on a hideous pink table cloth that came with the house.)

For my next trick, the next three rows, the "broken" rows of the border.

And finally, my new favorite shuttle (IdahoCanuk's amazing work!) pointing to a mistake that I'm not going to fix. I COULD fix it, but for one I've already attached it to four rows of tatting, three of which are the joined, not the joiner, so I'd have to do some backflips to fix it (possibly literally). Instead I'm going to leave one join loose on the other side. (That's right, I'm a loose tatter!)

Following your progress on this massive project has been great fun. I am so impressed with your work. And now you're on the home stretch. What, oh what are you going to do with yourself once this is finished?

I wouldn't say I'm in the home stretch, more like in the middle. After this one? I will probably spend some time putting my thoughts together on mistakes, new techniques, and make a few doilies or things for Christmas. Then, who knows, I'll probably start work on one of the other large doilies that I've seen on here, from the Honey Napkin to some of the others. Or I'll make a second one of these. Actually, I WILL make a second one of these.

I know the second time through a pattern is generally easier, but a second time at this one is such a big undertaking. I admire your perseverence.

Wowee! That looks great, and I for one can't spot your mistake! So glad you've gotten to this point. I thought you were going to stop after finishing these rows? Have you now decided to go for the outer part with the cloth panels?

Originally, I was going to start before these rows, then I thought I'd stop after these rows. I've long decided that if I don't finish it, I would be leaving it half done. It's like an itch that must be scratched.

Hi Wodentoad -- when will you be in DC? Maybe we could meet for coffee and tatting? It would be great to meet you. This project of yours inspires me! Peace, Mary Kay

Our DC trip will probably be sometime late in the summer, but our details are really loose. When it gets a little closer, I'll drop you a line. I'm the only tatter I've ever met since my Granny (great grandmother) died (when I was three).

A second side of the "broken rows" of the border is now complete. As I had calculated, the border sits right at the edge of my table Everything beyond the border will hang gracefully off the sides.

Just six more to go!
