Well, progress is progress. Dithered over colors. White, honey drizzle, pistachio, silver. I'm starting round 1! too early for photos yet. Need to find a better join for the far end of the horizontal ring.

Ü Welcome!!!

I know it's a bit late in the process, but could I join in? I've had Renulek's doily on my to-do list since she first introduced it. I thought I'd do it in white, as she did, but I've been inspired by the examples on here of different colours used. Here's my first 2 rounds. The thread is Coats size 20, very old thread that I was given as a gift.intatters-attachment

It's never to late to tat a lovely pattern! Ü you're off to a very pretty start. Love the soft pinks and greens.

Join right in! I started last year and I'm still not finished (don't be alarmed, I have switched off to other projects, but I will finish). Maybe I'll get mine finished with you Jane. That is some really lovely thread. Very cheerful.

I'm really enjoying all the colours! And I hope they make me braver in my colour choices, too.

Here's my update. Well, I'm half way around round 2 and I already have a major problem. Round 1 is too large relative to round 2. I'm needle tatting, and its almost as though I had switched to a smaller needle (yes, i've been needle tatting). In order to join to the next picot of Round 1, I can no longer keep it flat I'm Round 1 is not so far back that I can't start over. Or should I cut off round 2 and intentionally use a larger needle. I've considered adding some stitches to round 2 or taking some off round 1.
Suggestions?

I've been using a Dora Young knot for the join on the sideways ring. That's easy now. Well, I have been somewhat distracted from making a decision. I a new colors thread order from HH just arrived, AND, I have a new student.. starting with needle and then she wants to learn shuttle, AND, the local Senior Center has a new display case and one shelf will be devoted to tatting in a changing display.

I made in round 2 and 3 the second ring with 3 normal picots, one small picot and 3 normal picots. No problems, it was flat. The outsite ring I made with 7 normal picots. I think it will be flat on the moment you make row 4.

I had no problems with either round 2 & 3, tatting them as is....I also did smaller joining picots and found that the way the round is constructed it can stretch or compact (accordion like) as needed to fit.... and as I did the next round they all anchored each other. The only round or part I had to alter was the small attaching pieces between the snowflakes/flowers, and I had to add a few stitches to the outer chains of the onion rings.

Same here. Just changed the little bit between the medallions.

intatters-attachmentOk, I've finished the fourth round and started on the medallions (that's a good word!) I'm making the centres green and the rest pink, and will then make the in-between bits green.

Jane, are you using two variegated threads together? Very interesting. = )

Not so great Fox, I've just realised I've done an extra repeat on round 4! I wouldn't usually do that, Elefiona, but they are both quite subtle variegated, so I think it works ok.

Is your extra repeat where you began and stopped your round? If so, you can easily fix that.

Yes, they are very subtle. I almost didn't catch that the green was variegated. I think it looks great.

intatters-attachment Yes, Elfiona, it was pretty easy to sort out, because the final repeat had no original picots. I cut it out and then used a split thread to sew the picots together. In such a big, busy doily I don't think it will be obvious.

That looks great. So I've just learned how to repair a mistake in a doily...

It looks great Jane. And seeing your color choices up close, your doily is going to be gorgeous.

Thanks!

intatters-attachment My doily doesn't lie absolutely flat now I've finished round 5. Will the next row bring it all into line, or should I alter my stitch count and redo the small in-between bits? What do you think? By the way, I know the pattern throws the 2-2-2-2 ring off the chain on the next row, but I thought that if I did it here, I could use a ball and shuttle for the next round rather than 2 shuttles.

Mine did not lie very well but after I did the next row it improves. Don't worry.
