I love the look of most doilys from Jan Stawasz, but they are full of those little pieces
Congratulations to all of you who mastered this challenge or are on their way.
Your beautiful work!

But really, it is all in how you look at it...... tatting all those 'little pieces' is no different than tatting small necklace medallions or pairs of earrings..... only difference is they eventually get all connected together to make one big spectacular piece! :)
Thank you Orange Juice!
Pattern is by Jon Yusoff - it's her "Square Block".

Marla, tatting them once or twice is no problem, but I do not like so many repeats :-/
Pfffffffff I finished my renulek's doily. See the picture in the Group.
Yippee!! Congratulations! Through many travails to a happy conclusion.
Congratulations Sonja!
I had to make a haste present for a wedding and choose to make one of these...choosing the line of least resistance, have decided to use ecru colour as a ball and put the white one on the shuttle. I had a deadline of 25 days and not all of them available for tatting. Given this combination of circumstances and by reading previous comments how tedious this work is - I have decided to take some statistics for future references along the way. Of course this is an informative guide only as lots depends on the material used and individual tatting style. I did not make the last row as I have run out of time and have just modified row 8 to serve this purpose....(photos are in the group folder)..total - 77hrs of work...50gr, 55cm across...... see details in pdf attached! And I'm yet to finish the blue version I have started loooooong time ago...

Those stats are very helpful! I should do something similar - though I tat my doilies in such little bits of time, it would be hard to add them all up. I should definitely keep track of thread yardage, though.
I would start timer each time I started working on it, and recorded it as I went through the rounds, wasn't that demanding....I also started using new balls, and weighted them afterwards as well as a finished product...I was really surprised how little thread went into it....
Ciao a tutti! Sto attaccando i trifogli! Per adesso, ho fatto solo i primi due!

Grazie ragazze!
Excellent going Orange juice!...which size thread is this? how big is across at the moment?
Hello tattalittle! The thread is no. 30 and the doily now measure 35 cm.
I translated with Google Translate, I hope it is right.
We understand it and that's the most important thing. It looks oke for me, but I'm Dutch, from Holland.
I guess this is an old thread, but I decided to do a doily and this is the one I picked. Searching for it on intatters brought up this thread, so I thought I'd post. I'm a little more than halfway through row 3.
Yes, it is an old thread, but more is always welcome. And don't feel bad. I am also working on this one. I put it aside and became diverted to other things. I plan on returning and finishing mine up. Check the Groups. There is a place where everyone was posting their finished works for everyone to admire. I didn't realize it was two years ago now that this tat-a-long started. Feel free to ask any questions and maybe we can finish together.
Thanks Elfiona. I saw the album. I may never get done. I kept messing up row 2. I think I cut it off and started over 3 times, and still ended up with a major mistake in one element, lol. I decided to keep going though because I was tired of cutting it off and redoing it. Once I get done with row 3 I'll post a picture of my progress. I think row 4 may take me a month. It looks time consuming.
Okay, here is mine with row 3 done. There are a couple of major mistakes, bonus points for finding them.

Your row 3 mostly looks good. I only saw one glaring mistake, and it made me ponder how you managed that. = ) Row 3 is basically a repeat of Row 2. What was tripping you up? Row 4 will take a bit of time, but just worry about what you are currently tatting and don't look too far ahead. I find that what helps me is marking the circle off in quarters and eighths (depending on the size). It really helps me realize how much I have accomplished and not focus on how much is left to do.
The mistake on row 3 is a mistake + the fix of the mistake. So, to fix it I just made that element and tied it on top of the mistake, lol. That's how I managed that weird configuration of stitches.
For row 2 I kept messing up the number of stitches in the chain that loops around the ring. By the time I got to row 3 I mostly had it figured out.
