Oh - goodie! Great work! That turned out beautifully. I think I'm going to do it with brown rings and green chains. The shapes just remind me of little trees : )

I agree, but, i think I will use green rings for tree tops/ bushes!!! I need several less frilly booksmarks for gifts :)

Oops! I said it backwards. I meant for the tree tops to be green and the trunks to be brown - LOL! Like you said, Mercy : )

The green & brown sounds like a really nice colour scheme — and great for guys, too! If I weren't so tied up, I'd go and try it now...

That makes me think of the new LizBeth color "Herb Garden". I think it is great for more masculine gifts...

I made the trees last night : )

It's a little crooked without the mirrored side. I was thinking of designing a line of grass or water to go along the bottom.

PS - I used two needles as I tatted so that I could have both rings and chains in brown.

I do like the greens and brown with end rings in brown. Since I use shuttles, I would use the shoelace trick to achieve the brown rings on the ends. :)

It looks great! Will you be putting your grass or water between the two lines of trees? Hmm, water could suggest that one line of trees is the reflection in the water of the other line...

Ok, everybody.. LHP Join... I forgot what it looks like. Went off to look. I found a video by Karen Cabrera for shuttle tatters. Seems to me that needle tatters would start the same, but pull the needle through the two loops?... or, is it enough to just put the loops on the needle using the same order as for a shuttle.

I make my needle tatted LHP joins identically to those for the shuttle except the needle goes through the loops instead of the shuttle.

I made this up in Cranberry Bush. Did not use LHP so there are some "blips." I needle tatted it. Six repetitions of the pattern turned out 6" long and 1.5" wide.

Now I'm making it in Herb Garden...

We were talking about options for masculine gifts. Here's how it turned out in Herb Garden. Did not use LHP but blips not noticeable.

These turned out very nice. Both of the colors I have on my want list.

Pretty bookmarks! I think I might use the chains solid to show off the color changes just in the rings, but you have made me add BOTH of these color combos to my "to do" list.

Wow, the bookmark looks great in Cranberry Bush and Herbal Garden! I have Herbal Garden. I think I shall make this for my lecturers — all of them are bookish guys...

Yesterday, proceeding with the version in Brown and Tan posted here somewhere, I ran out of thread after two repeats on the right side... I looked at it and thought... Well, if I fix up the bottom to look like the top, it will do as a center for a necklace. So the next version had beads on the outside.. still just two repeats. Then I put them down back to back and Voila.. there's the inverted one on the Jan Green ETSY site!! so that's what happened. Then, I flipped them around and There was a motif that not only had a nice square center, but also made a square with the large top/bottom rings now in the corners of the motif. Well, now if you have a necklace, you must have matching earrings, so I've been working on how to build a smaller version that will make a nice dangly earring. Just couldn't resist sharing how much fun its been to do this.

Now for a few caveats. This was no simple task using tatting needles. Rings account for nearly 80% of the stitches, and are the Main Color. The contrasting color, only 20%. To achieve the look of the Dark brown Rings, and light colored chains joining them, you need the ball thread for your chain stitches, and the main color on the needle thread! Aaaarghhh.. its no wonder I ran out of Ring thread, even though I had doubled what I thought I needed. Its also why next time I will invert the COLORS, so that I can do the entire bookmark with more repeats, and not get stopped 1/4 of the way around. And, its why I don't mind messing around on a small version for earrings. You'll have to wait for the Earrings.

Very nice. I think your join blips showed up in more places because of the variegated thread. If the rings are all one color, their joins should blend more.

Wow, I am looking forward to seeing this sounds interesting. What a difference equipment must make.

I can manage to make a passable ring with a shuttle, but chains,.. not so much.. and joins.. not so neat.

Oooo! Post pictures soon! I'm trying to imagine the shapes - but my mental "thread" got tangled in process, lol!

Jan, love the cross with black chains. It gives it a nice gothic look. Has it been blocked? Nicely done.
