@IdahoCanuck @ninetta and @becky400 YAY!!!

@IdahoCanuck - I feel your pain. Pink is my least favorite color. I've been getting teased a bit for having it in my take-along bag at the moment! But I soldier on. Fourteen in two evenings? Wow. You must be one of the fast tatters. That's really impressive!

If you tatted the first ring facing inwards, all the tiny picots would be in place for the chain to pass around the outside of it. Then the final chain would be easier to attach at the base of the 1st ring.

I have been starting with the first ring where she shows to start the first chain and find no problems at all. It takes me about 20 minutes to do each square...... and ending on the outer edge makes it easy to tie off & sew in the ends.

I'm up to 50, and still have most of a Starlit shuttle full of the last of the first ball of Lizbeth thread. Katie Verna, another member of my local guild, has over 30 done! I was really hoping my guild would be able to send in at least 100, but I'm thinking between me and Katie, we'll end up with well over 200! Ha! Ha!!

@IdahoCanuck Wow, you are like lightning! I'm so pokey. I did get one whole motif done while waiting in the line at my post office Saturday morning. The fella standing in line ahead of me got interested and kept asking me questions, which got other people talking, so it was a lot more pleasant than it usually would have been standing in a long line. Everyone left cheerful instead of annoyed at the wait, so I did my good deed for the day. :)

My pink thread arrived from Australia.. Very nice color, too. Seemed a bit twisty when I put it on a spool. Have to watch that.

I'm now up to 55 motifs.... I got slowed down a bit by life, and a stupid respiratory illness...
I plan to just do however many my one ball will make.... I just refilled my shuttles and probably have enough to fill one more time. I'm using my clover bobbin shuttles (my new favorite go too's!) And I get about 6-7 +/- motifs off a filled pair.... I really like to pack it on!

Wondering whether this was a prologue. Does the real story now unfold here ??? Watch Cathy de Greef's recent video

It looks like she's also looking for funding to publish a tatting book, and listing her claims to fame in the tatting community to promote it. I don't have a problem with that.

Yay! I'll update the list once a week, so we can all see how much we've gotten accomplished.

I have yet to plunge into this, but I recall that other squares were accepted as long as they were the same size. Has anyone designed other squares? I think making the same one over and over will drive me nuts.

I really would like to participate in this, but I don't have suitable thread and can't get any quick enough for reasonable shipping.

Yeah, that was my thought too. I've got an Emmy Liebert square that I've cut down to the right size using size 20 thread. I'll be happy to share it. I haven't done a second test tat yet to make sure my written instructions are correct. I usually will wait a couple weeks before doing that so my mind doesn't fill in stuff that isn't really there. I'd like more variety too. I have a big deadline on getting the first decade of Workbasket scanned for Antique Pattern Library and uploaded for Sytske, but I'll try to work this in. :)

Nothing needs to be mailed until the first of February, and even then, I think letting Cathy know how many you're sending that will be late won't be a problem. She'll have plenty to work with while the stragglers are coming in. Would you like me to send you some thread? I bought six balls, and I'll never get through it all by the end of January. Unless I suddenly get a yen to make flying pigs or pink hearts, I'm unlikely to ever use it again after this project is completed. Just let me know about how many you'd like to make, and I will reel off enough with some wiggle room and pop it into the mail. :)

Finished my 22nd square and ... i was wondering if there was any information on how these would be connected for use in the final project. After looking at my batch and considering all the other batches that are being made by us (then considering all the ones coming from outside of Craftree) I don't envy the person who has to manage connecting them.

It makes me wonder if she was expecting this level of response. Somebody's gonna have a LOT of work ahead of them

I agree. It would be helpful to see the idea/way the donated squares will be assembled.

I'm guessing she'll have some sort of backing material to add strength to it - the weight of this thing is going to want to pull it out of shape - and an army of volunteers to help assemble it. She's already got a couple hundred tiles to test and refine her assembly method. I'd already be working on the assembling to time how many hours it's ultimately going to take. I have no idea how organized Cathy is. Since she teaches, I'm hoping she has students she can dragoon into the assembly phase of this. All of this is speculation. I don't know Cathy, but I like her energy and her vision, and I personally could use something positive to counter current political conditions to focus on. And I'd like to see what a tatted monument looks like. I'm treating it like one of Jane's mystery tats!

I've got directions tested for two more squares of the right size:
Weldon's Square Medallion
Tina Frauberge's Medallion 107, heavily revised

I'll get the samples scanned to add to the instructions when I get home and try to figure out how to upload the pdfs to Craftree so anyone can use them.. They use about the same amount of thread each as Cathy's tile and they are also copyright free. I'll see if I can find any others that are suitable once I get the Workbasket scanning done. :)

Here's the Weldon's square medallion, with one revision - I added a join on the interior chains to add stability to the tile. The original pattern just called for a chain of 10 stitches.

And here's the Tina Frauberger Medallion #107 that I revised dramatically to make it fit 3cm. I still think it's pretty. Now we have at least a little variety! I hear my bed calling me, so I'm signing off for now...
