Drive by update! Five of eight loops of rings and chains done. Three left to go!

Super! So glad that all the designing hasn't distracted you from making progress on the Super Giant Teacloth!

Wow, what an amazing offer! The linen inserts are the one thing that I am not confident on. Because I am doing this in black and white, I am just stuck on how to match it. I might take you up on it.

If you tat it in size 80, I want YOU to keep it. It would be too amazing to just give away like that, however, if you would like, you can join the Travelling lace thread (which started the Round Robin threads, lol!), and I can add you to the list on Lacy's whistle stop tour of the planet. Reading six years of posts is some serious dedication!

It is going to be a crazy summer, as I am returning to college in the autumn so I am fairly certain it will probably be next year before I finish it. But I always try to keep my team updated, even if it is a short drive by. I do promise, though, if you tat it, make a thread and I will follow along.

@wodentoad, you have two small children and you're going back to school? You're braver than I. I waited till my three were mostly out of school before I went back. And then it was online. You will learn the true value of coffee and patience! May your studies go well and you accomplish all you set your heart on.

I had personal reasons and needed a change in my life, so I decided to become a PhD Chemist. Since my Husband's a Professor at the college where I can get my Bachelors, we only have to pay for books and such, but not tuition, so that can go to childcare. The little one is two, but there is a lovely preschool that the other professors have used.

It's terrifying, especially for someone that graduated middle of my class in High school and dropped out of college the first time. That being said, as much as I love my kids (the elder turns 11 tomorrow, the younger will be 3 in May), I know that I will be a better mother to them as a complete person, and my daughter can have a better role model than a depressed, grumpy shut-in. Being a Stay at Home Mom has not been the best time for me.

But come Hell or high water, or as we also say around here: Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will finish this tea cloth. I'm currently working on the charts by basically drawing over the photographs with a photo program, and I still need to curate all the travel photos and maybe add in some captures from this amazing forum. It's been a LONG trip for all of us.

Plain bleached linen in a medium to heavy weight will work well with the size and heft of your finished lace. You can either send the finished and blocked lace to me and I will cut, hem and sew in the linen for you; or you can block your finished lace, set it over a piece of paper and trace the outlines and send that to me to use as a pattern to make up the hemmed linen which I can then send to you and you can sew them in. I enjoy making hankies, but seldom manage to get my lace exactly the same size as a pre-sewn hankie square - so I don't bother with them any more. I make my lace, then cut and hem a square of linen to fit it!

I'd love to get in on the Travelling Lace club! I'm in Spokane, WA.

You'll have to share just why you chose chemistry... I have an ancient BS in Chem, but got headaches from the organic chemicals, so I abandoned it for headache free mathematics. I'm cheering you for going back -- just wondering what impelled you into chem.

Part of it is because when I was in high school it was my most fun class. Part of it, too, is because I want to be an environmental scientist. I don't want to save the world, but I want to do my part to help.

That's a great reason--one I share, including a great HS class. My tatting projects that aren't personal gifts are donated to an environmental group for their annual silent auction.

Congratulations on going back to school (although, I warn you, it's addictive. I'm on my 4th degree!)

It's great to set yourself a new challenge. Bear in mind that there are different forms of 'educating' yourself, and 'schooling' (advanced or otherwise) does not necessarily make one a complete person.

Finally! Finished the sixth loop with just two more loops (356 rings) left to go! I did lose one of my little counter flags so I will have to replace it, but so far everything is going well otherwise.

I know, these loops are taking forever. I have had trouble finding the time to tat as we tumble into summer.

You're getting Summer this year? How did you manage that? We still can't settle on whether we have Spring or late Winter or, every once in a while, early Summer.

We get summer every year. Iced tea and lemonade and front porches and all. Though Sunday it was 27°C, Monday it snowed (well flurries) all day, and yesterday was warm again. Our spring can't seem to get started.

That's very warm for April (from a Nordic point of view), but at least tatting isn't as hot as crocheting or knitting with heavy wool! Congratulations! Only two more loops to go!

I have my last Round Robin to send out today, but I am finally back to work so it's time to raise the spectre of the second longest Necro-thread!

I finished the 7/8 loop yesterday, and managed to grab a pic this morning of everything I have completed. The half row I finished between the triangles needs to be cut out, and the mass of black is the final batch of rings, one of which is still wandering the planet in search of adventure.

alt-text

I have 120ish rings left to go on the current round, then after I cut out the first attempt, I have the second row to re-do, but I think it should go pretty quickly. I hope it should be finished by its next birthday (June 12th).

ETA: I measured it at 78" or just shy of 2 metres, which is where I guessed it would be when I first measured it.

You keep astonishing us. Two meters diameter is quite an achievement. So glad I've followed your progress all along. I can't imagine coming upon this thread now and reading all posts. It would be quite surreal.

This is just rings and chains, a ton of mistakes, and a lot of patience. I am more impressed by the honey napkin and the microscopic work done in anything smaller than 20, as well as everything that isn't rings and chains. I am an amateur tatter.
