Ice cream cones... great for the triple diget weather in California!!!!
in reply to BeckyC's post:
thanks for these! I am thinking of something like a doily and these are some good inspiration for where to start.
Hey folks! Chasing a baby on vacation has cut into my tatting time, but we have had a great time. In-laws paid for the hotel:
But we have had a lot of fun in the surf:
And went to Dinner and a show at Pirate Voyage:
Kids got facepaint and I got to see some very fine acrobats AND two sea lions up close.
What fun!! I'm reminded of a Norma Benporath column I recall reading online in Trove where she talked about how nice it was to take your tatting to the beach -- I can't recall which pattern that went with; I'll have to try and find it again!
Ha! I've had my tatting at the beach. The only tatting I got done was on the way there and home again. LOL
I tried to tat in the run-up to the pirate show, but let's be honest, singing pirates can be distracting. It was a lot of fun. Home and routine after tomorrow, though!
Looks like you all had a great time. Even the tea cloth was included in the fun!
So I just hit the turn which marks the first quarter of the final row, when I found two mistakes which led to two out of place rings. The first was a missed join a few repeats back (not bad), but the second was miscounted rings on the previous row. It should have had 128, it had 129. This is far more frustrating, but not a deal breaker. Time to go into repair mode.
As few repairs as this tea cloth has required should make you proud. I know when they happen it seems like the whole project revolves around them, but all in all, it hasn't really been that many. At least not that you've reported, and I'm assuming you've reported them all. We're all groaning with you, of course, but I also want to encourage you. This you can handle. It's just a delay.
I cut out the previous row mistake and will sit with it for a bit. School is starting up and work, so it is busy here, but I will get back to it soon.
Well, it took more working than I wanted, and the fix isn't pretty, but it IS fixed. I'm now working to finish the first quarter. I have a lot going on, kids starting school, me starting school, house issues, but in the evenings, I've been listening to a book on tape (Frankenstein--LibreVox has a great dramatic recording) and playing World of Warcraft. Since there is plenty of downtime and travel in the game, sometimes I'm playing, listening to the book and tatting.
I keep myself busy.
The next week is the last week before I head to class, and there is a fantastic opening ceremony thing for transfer and first year students, which I suspect will be long sitting and listening to presentations. And y'all know we DVD types don't like sitting idle.
No worries, I use a flat one that IdahoCanuck made, and keep one in reserve.
Miss me?
I have been swamped with classes and homework and studying, but I haven't given up. I get in a few stitches at every opportunity. I've managed to cross the next top in the last LONG row, but I have not done much in the past couple of months. I'm hoping that my next break will afford me some tatting time, especially since I am about to hit another triangle, and these take some focus.
Thanks for sticking it through, everyone. I have been trying to get back to Craftree, but much of my spare time has been spent with my notecards. Love you all, and I will be lurking.
Studies are fun too, Erin. We'll still be here whenever you have a few minutes to check in. When I went back to finish my degree it was online, but I still checked in only from time to time until graduation. You have the travel time as well. Don't worry. We still remember you.
Sorry I have not posted much. College has been insane, but now that it is spring break, I finally had a moment to finish the 4th triangle. Yes, technically it is the 3 1/2 because the end of the row is at the first triangle, but I am taking the win.
This summer, we have big plans on decluttering. I have big plans on tatting at the beach.
Ah. So THAT'S what spring break is for. I just checked to see when you started this thread. Well, the fact that I'm writing post # 740 made me check. It's taken 6 years to grow this thread that long, and for you to tat this much of your massive tea cloth. Put into perspective, it's really awesome. Takes MY breath away, anyway. May your beach tatting go well.
I totally agree with @Lynn - your teacloth is just stupendous! Enjoy your beach tatting.
There are some places where I could have tatted faster or taken fewer long breaks. I am almost halfway through (one long section then half a triangle will be half) with this long row, then I have to finish the motifs on the outside, though I need to track the travelling Lacy down and of course, finish the pattern.
